NUC Approves Ebonyi State University of ICT, Science and Technology.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of the Ebonyi State University of ICT, Science and Technology, located in Oferekpe, Ebonyi State.

This marks a significant milestone in the state’s educational development, as the institution becomes the 66th state university in Nigeria and the 278th in the Nigerian University System.

During the official presentation of the recognition letter to Governor Francis Nwifuru on Thursday, the NUC’s Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Ribadu, confirmed the university’s status.

He noted that the institution will play a pivotal role in enhancing access to higher education in Ebonyi State and across the country.

A copy of the recognition letter will also be sent to key organisations, including the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.

Professor Ribadu emphasised that while the university has been granted official recognition, academic activities will not commence until the necessary resource verification is conducted.

He stated:

“The Commission will visit when the university is ready, to assess infrastructure, classrooms, the library, and staffing. Only after that will we give the go-ahead for academic activities to commence.”

Governor Francis Nwifuru expressed his gratitude to the NUC for the recognition, highlighting the university’s establishment in 2021 as part of efforts to increase access to quality and affordable higher education.
